Ermanno Novali, piano, keyboards and live electronics
Ermanno Novali is a piano player, improviser and composer active in jazz and free improvisation projects, mainly the european improvisation ensemble Tuscany Music Revolution (Top Jazz 2022 for the italian review Musica Jazz), Duo Sutera Novali with Virginia Sutera, Ermanno Novali trio with Luca Pissavini and Matteo Milesi, RE:Places live electronics and the piano solo as well as collaborations (among others, Sandro Cerino Quartet & Crescendo Big Band, Alberto Mandarini Big Band, Carlo Muscat italian 4et, Novara Jazz Collective). He majored in classical piano in Bergamo with Marco Giovanetti and dedicated himself to free improvisation at the musical research permanent laboratory in Siena led by Stefano Battaglia. He studied jazz improvisation with Claudio Angeleri at CDpM in Bergamo, attended the Siena Jazz Summer Workshops with Franco D’Andrea, Kenny Werner, John Taylor and Ben Street and masterclasses with Chick Corea, Craig Taborn, Bob Moses, Lenny White and Thomas Morgan.
He had the opportunity to play, among others, with Steven Bernstein, Gianluigi Trovesi, Rob Sudduth, Carlo Muscat, Garrison Fewell, Kaja Draksler; he played with singers Sarah Jane Morris, Antonella Ruggiero, Simona Molinari, Paola Folli and Joyce Elaine Yuille and played, among others venues, in Malta International Jazz Festival, Novara Jazz, Bergamo Jazz Festival with his trio and in a double set with Tingvall Trio, Notti di Luce and International Jazz Day in Bergamo and in many italian and european clubs including, multiple times, Blue Note in Milan. He won in 2017 the first prize for international composition contest “P.Arzano” for International Jazz Day 2017 with “Two souls” from the Ermanno Novali Trio album “Passacaglia” published by Emme Record Label and was awarded among the best 5 bands and top 10 albums of the year 2022 by the italian review Musica Jazz with TMR Tuscany Music Revolution – out now with a new album of improvised duets “TMR Duets” for the berlin based label Aut Records.
