Simone Di Benedetto, double bass
Simone Di Benedetto, born in 1989, graduated in double bass with full marks, then continued in composition studies, graduating with honors and honorable mention with a thesis on the relationship between composition and improvisation. Since 2007 he has played with artists such as Stefano Battaglia, Dudù Kouatè, Franco Cerri, Fred Hamilton, Achille Succi, Marco Colonna, Pasquale Mirra, Javier Girotto, Cristina Zavalloni, Cristiano Arcelli, Marcello Allulli, Carlo Boccadoro; he performed in France, Denmark, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland and Slovenia, and in festivals such as Umbria Jazz, JazzIt Festival, Ravenna Festival, Barga Jazz. In 2011 he recorded with the trio Else! the First degree album. In 2016 he recorded with Alberto Collodel on clarinets the “The periodic system” for the Berlin-based AutRecords. In 2018, In Your Thoughts (UR records) with the Archipelagos group, winner of the first competition “Stefano Cerri “and Red & Blue (improvvisatore involontario), the first record as leader of the S.d.B. project. In 2019 the first solo album, Depth Sounding, is released again for AutRecords. In 2020 is out with Kinetic, second DST album with guest Gabriele Mitelli, and Timewise, suite of original songs which blends improvisation and composition, both for AutRecords. Also in 2020 publishes Viaggio in Italia, a duo album recorded with the guitarist Federico Balducci, registered between Boston and Italy. Since 2019 he plays in the trio of Francesco Orio, with whom he publishes Os in winter 2020. In 2019 he publishes a series of videos entitled Workin bass on the extended techniques of contrabass. In 2018 he was the winner of the AIR call for an artistic residency in Copenhagen. Since 2017 he has been teaching composition at the Vecchi-Tonelli conservatory in Modena.
